UrSlam Factor Talent Competition 5


11th March 2017



UrSlam Factor is a yearly talent competition open to all inmates in Correctional Centres who have a talent in music, comedy, magic, poetry, dance or writing. The pilot will be at the Pollsmoor Correctional Centre with the eventual rollout to Correctional Centres nationally.

A first of its kind, the entire competition will be funded by Women Taking Action and will attract professional judges in the entertainment industry, from around South Africa and beyond the country's borders. The programme has been developed specifically to assist inmates in the process of rehabilitation by providing inmates with a platform to showcase their talents.

Al-Noor Orphans at Malmesbury Correctional Centre


6 November 2016



Women Taking Action in partnership with CPUT students and Correctional Services Malmesbury hosted the Al-Noor Orphans at Malmesbury Correctional Centre on Sunday 6th November 2016. Children were given a tour of the facility with an uplifting talk by an Inmate of his introduction into a life of crime, a spectacular show by a magician, music by Malmesbury Offender Band, a Cooked meal, desert, cakes and countless gifts...

Pollsmoor Correctional Centre

Another successful Pap Smear campaign done by Women Taking Action on Sunday the 28th August 2016!!!!! 200 Offenders of the Pollsmoor Correctional Centre were the recipients of the free Pap Smears, a high tea and toiletry packs. Special thanks to Esme Fortuin who so generously offered to assist Women Taking Action with the preparation when extra hands were needed.

Women's Day Breakfast - Plumstead


9 August 2016



What a beautiful giving day to celebrate Women's Day. The members of Women taking Action proudly hosted a breakfast for 50 women from disadvantaged communities. Each woman was given an article of clothing, a hand knitted scarf, hand made jewelry, socks, and toiletries. Today's guests were overwhelmed with gratitude.

Free pap Smears for the Women - Protea Primary School in Atlantis

300 Women from Atlantis and surrounding areas showed up to Women Taking Actions Free PAP Smear event. This was done in partnership with Precedence Laboratories and Correctional Services West Coast identified the women. Women Taking Action gifted women with blankets, scarves and toiletry packs Ebrahim Patel the Minister of Economic Development was our guest speaker at the event and assisted in handing out gifts.

WOMEN TAKING ACTION CELEBRATED MANDELA'S CALL TO UNITE FOR CHANGE IN THE WORLD WITH A BREAKFAST FOR 67 HOMELESS MEN AND WOMEN FROM THE SOUTHERN SUBURBS AND SURROUNDING AREAS. EVERYONE RECEIVED A WHOLESOME MEAL, UPLIFTING TALK ABOUT HOW IN SPITE OF OUR OBVIOUS SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC DIFFERENCES WE WERE ALL THE SAME BY VIRTUE OF OUR HUMANITY. GIFTS OF SCARVES WERE HANDED OUT TO ALL. FOOD FOR THE MIND, SOUL AND BODY...........

Women Taking Action NPC in Partnership with the Department of Correctional Services Malmesbury @ Douglas Murray Old Age Home in Retreat Cape Town on Sunday the 15th of May 2016. Women Taking Action donated Toiletries, Pillows, Blankets, Goody Boxes and a High Tea for 70 elderly men and women. Also 6 wheel chairs were donated by Correctional Services.
